To the editor:
I was truly inspired listening to Karen Cronin present at the May 5 School Committee meeting about the citizenship initiatives taking place at Summer Street School.
Mrs. Cronin shared the many thoughtful ways the Summer Street and Lynnfield Preschool staff help students grow into respectful, responsible, and caring citizens. From the STARS program and monthly Great Gatherings to buddy classrooms, student-led morning announcements, and an active student council, every aspect of the school culture is designed to reinforce the values of honesty, fairness, respect, and kindness.
What stood out most to me is how intentionally these lessons are woven into everyday school life. Students are not only taught what it means to be a good citizen, but are given meaningful opportunities to practice leadership, teamwork, empathy, and service to others.
The dedication and creativity of the Summer Street and Preschool staff are truly remarkable. They are building a school community where students feel connected, valued, and empowered to make a positive difference.
I am so impressed by all the thoughtful work being done in our schools and grateful for the commitment of Mrs. Cronin and her entire team. Their efforts are helping shape not only strong students, but also thoughtful and compassionate members of our community!
