LYNN — In a business where clients are gained through fender benders and shattered taillights, Olympic Auto Body has built a reputation captured in its slogan: “We make friends by accident.”
The shop, located at 174 Broad St. and owned by Arthur and Irene Stefanidis, turns 35 this July.
Although the business predates the current owners, it has a long history for Arthur, who started working at the shop when he was 16 after moving to Lynn from Greece. Irene was born and raised in Lynn.
They have since left Lynn, moving to Boxford; however, for the two, Lynn will always be home.
“We know everybody now, we know so many people from being here for so many years. I’ve seen customers come back,” Irene said.
The couple purchased Olympic Auto Body in 1991 while engaged. They have been married for 34 years.
“She’s actually my rock, and why this business is successful. She handles the front office. I handle the work,” Arthur said.
Olympic Auto Body is a collision-focused shop that guides customers from the moment of an accident through filing insurance claims, arranging rentals, and coordinating repairs until their car is ready to drive home. It is not a standard repair shop.
The shop is also a part of the direct repair program with major insurance agencies, including MAPFRE, Plymouth Rock, and Quincy Mutual, allowing customers to bring a damaged vehicle directly to the shop. When they arrive, Olympic Auto Body staff can assess the damage directly, write an estimate, and send the information to the insurance agency, streamlining the process for customers.
Arthur said he treats every vehicle that comes into the shop as if it were his own.
“I always try to do the best I can for everybody,” he said. “I don’t do any shortcuts or cut any corners.”
Irene said, “We do a little extra; we always detail the cars before they leave. We’ll do inspections, make sure everything’s working right. We go a little bit above and beyond for each customer.”
Olympic Auto Body is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
