SWAMPSCOTT — Bedrock Pilates will welcome community members into its Humphrey Street studio this weekend as owner Angie Yu hosts an open house designed to introduce residents to the new business.
The open house will take place Sunday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bedrock Pilates, 148 Humphrey St. Visitors will be able to tour the studio, try the equipment, enter a raffle, and speak with Yu about classes and training in a fun and relaxed setting.
Yu said that the event is intended to help people become familiar with the studio and what it offers.
“It’s going to be spreading the word,” she said. “I’ll just be here to answer any questions.”
Yu opened the studio in early April after relocating from Marblehead, and she said she was enjoying the new place in a location with a little more exposure and foot traffic.
“It’s been great — I’m so happy I got this location,” Yu said, adding that the move has helped attract clients from across the North Shore. “People are finding out about me.”
The Swampscott studio reflects Yu’s philosophy of offering highly individualized instruction. Rather than large group classes, Bedrock Pilates focuses on private sessions and very small classes with up to three participants, allowing Yu to tailor workouts to each client’s needs.
“I’m really big on extra attention with people,” Yu said. “I do a lot more one-on-one, and just a lot of attention.”
Yu has taught Pilates for years, with a focus on helping people build strength, improve mobility, recover from injuries, and stay active throughout their lives. She works with clients ranging from teenagers to older adults and has developed a particular interest in supporting women during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause.
The open house will also serve as a preview for another event planned at the studio. On July 16, Bedrock Pilates will host a Women’s Wellness Social featuring Dr. Carmela Mancini, who will discuss topics including menopause, perimenopause, hormone therapy, and healthy aging. Through both events, Yu hopes to introduce more people to healthy resources and the studio itself.
