NAHANT — Located in Nahant’s East Point, 374 Nahant Road is up for sale with an asking price of $6,250,000.
The property overlooks the historic Egg Rock, located just off the town’s shoreline, and features 10 bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and seven half bathrooms across 9,234 square feet. The property sits on 3.13 acres.
Built in 1865, the estate features views of the Atlantic Ocean and Egg Rock, which has been home to the Henry Cabot Lodge Bird Sanctuary since 1923, according to the Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach website.
The home includes a central staircase, library, billiards room, mural room, butler’s pantry, and third-floor guest suite. Other architectural details include nine fireplaces, hardwood floors, intricate plaster moldings, and 11-foot ceilings.
The property also features a heated in-ground cliffside pool with an attached pool house and a private shared beach.
The oceanfront property has baseboard heating and is connected to the town’s sewer and water systems.
374 Nahant Road is listed for sale by Annie Wachtel, a Marblehead-based Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty.
Egg Rock was also once home to a lighthouse, built at the request of Swampscott fishermen in the mid-1800s.
In 1922, the lighthouse keeper’s cottage was sold for $5 with the stipulation that it must be removed from the island. “The new owner attempted to lower the building down the steep ledge by ropes onto a barge. During the process, one of the ropes gave way, and the house went crashing into the sea,” according to the Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach website.
