PEABODY — A three-story home on Tremont Street caught fire Monday afternoon.
The Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 9 Tremont St. at 12:12 p.m. Three engines, a ladder, and the deputy chief responded and put the fire out quickly, according to Fire Chief Jay Dowling.
There were five dogs inside the home on the second floor when firefighters arrived, and all five — Ranger, Kane, Cooper, Hunter, and Wolfie — made it out safely. Dowling said one firefighter was bitten by one of the dogs and transported to Salem Hospital, but that was the only reported injury of the day.
The residents of the second and third floors of the home have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The first floor residents were deemed safe to stay.
The health department and building inspector also responded to the scene. The investigation is still ongoing, and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
