LYNN — The Peabody West 12-year-old All-Stars put on a show at Charlie Reinfuss Field, eliminating West Lynn, 14-3, and advancing to the next round of the District 16 tournament.
Peabody West pounced right away Monday, plating six runs during the first inning. Robbie Stanziani (two-run triple), Will Sabia (three-run homer), and Brayden Coburn (RBI) were key players early.
West Lynn responded with a bang, courtesy of Esfrailan Nivar’s three-run homer. Also for the group, Adrian Barrigan batted 3-for-3, while Yeirron Troncosco pitched well in relief, according to manager Rich Naugle.
But pulling away was Peabody West with another six runs during the sixth inning. Gaetano Fodera (triple), Coburn, Connor Segee, and Dylan Giacalone strung together RBI to put the pressure on.
Sabia (3 IP), Segee (2), and Louie Ippolito, who entered to record the last out, shared pitching duties for Peabody West. Segee caught eyes when he struck out a pair of batters with the bases loaded.
“Just a great team win against a very good West Lynn team,” said Peabody West manager Shaun Coburn. “I’m very proud of how the boys have responded after losing our first game of the tournament to win four straight games. It’s not an easy task to play in the elimination bracket, but the boys have been resilient and have come ready to play. They have all worked extremely hard and it’s great to see the hard work pay off.”
Moving quickly, Peabody West will battle Winthrop on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 5:45 p.m. in Swampscott.
