NAHANT — A 14-year-old was hit by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Pond Street and Valley Road, Thursday afternoon, police officials said.
The operator of the motor vehicle, a dark colored Dodge Durango, fled the scene after striking the individual, Police Chief Timothy M. Furlong said. The Nahant Police Department is actively looking for the individual as of press time.
The individual, who was riding a bicycle, sustained minor injuries, and their mother arrived on the scene shortly after the incident. Once on scene, she refused treatment from Nahant Police.
“I just caution everybody, whether you’re on foot or driving, you’ve got to pay attention. Operators of vehicles have got to put their phones down. There’s just a constant violation. People are constantly on their phones, and I’m not saying that was the cause of the accident, but we have to use more caution as drivers and pedestrians,” Furlong said.
