SAUGUS — Police responded to two separate scooter incidents on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Friday, a teenager was hit and seriously injured by a motor vehicle on Adams Avenue.

The police department, fire department, and EMS responded to the incident, and it was reported that the teenager suffered from head and torso wounds.

Saturday, a woman was struck while riding a scooter in the afternoon near the Walnut Street overpass.

On Friday, the Massachusetts Senate “passed an economic development package that regulates micromobility devices, including electric scooters and e-bikes by adopting an innovative speed-based framework to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology and address widespread safety concerns,” according to a press release.

Saugus is one of many municipalities that have worked to enforce e-bike safety as incidents continue.

“E-bikes and other micromobility devices are an important part of our transportation system, giving an affordable way for residents to get to work, school, the grocery store, medical appointments, and connect with our public transportation system. As Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation, I was proud to collaborate with stakeholders in municipal government, law enforcement, small business owners, and transportation advocates to build a framework that prioritizes safety for everyone on our roads, bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails,” Sen. Brendan Crighton said. “Striking the right balance between accessibility and safety, this policy is a critical step to prevent serious injuries and save lives.”
