Roundup: St. John’s Prep wrestlers take down conference

The St. John’s Prep wrestling team secured its 28th consecutive Catholic Conference championship Monday and 31st in program history.

In a super-quad against conference opponents, the Eagles flew by Saint John’s Shrewsbury, Catholic Memorial, Boston College High, Malden Catholic, and Xaverian Brothers.

Undefeated St. John’s Prep wrestlers were Colin Vitale, Ben Schumacher, Graham Conway, Jimmy Lally, Will LaVallee, Charlie Poor, Sam Josey, and Bryant Mason.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynn Tech 81
English High (Boston) 65

The Tigers (7-4) delivered on home hardwood. Awan Awan snatched a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Andy Batista (14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) did a little bit of everything, while Keith Chandler (14 points, 3 steals) and Ulices Diaz (12 points, 9 rebounds) helped the cause.

Lynnfield 76
Ipswich 50

No home court, no problem for Lynnfield, which stayed hot and improved to 9-1. Leading the Pioneers were Grant Neal (26 points), Oliver Harth (15), Brandon Doherty (9 ), and Justin Flores (8).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Mary’s 54
Port Charlotte (Florida) 30

St. Mary’s upped its record to 11-1 and concluded the Bishop Verot Shootout in style. Sysy Emmanuel (14 points), McKenna O’Connell (11), and Lina Owumi (8) led the offense.

BOYS HOCKEY

Lynn 4
Northbridge 1

The Jets (6-6) returned to the .500 mark with a convincing win on home ice. Kyle Furlong scored twice to go with an assist, while Nathan Silva (goal), Aaron Cook (goal, assist), Marc Poste (2 assists), and Pedro Lopez (assist) also produced.

Westwood 6
Lynnfield 2

Despite an opening goal from CJ Anderson and a go-ahead strike from Anothony Calla, a 2-1 lead was as good as it got for Lynnfield, which fell to 4-5-3.

GIRLS HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 4
Westford Academy 1

On enemy ice, St. Mary’s (9-0-1) took care of business in Boxborough. Alyssa Norden potted a pair of goals, while Keira Twomey and Annabelle Collins also found the back of the net. Meg Donato made 10 saves between the pipes.
