The Lynn Classical and KIPP Academy boys basketball teams secured home-court wins Thursday night.
In Greater Boston League action, Classical was tied with Somerville after one quarter and trailed by six points at halftime. The Rams (14-2) took over in the second half en route to a 68-59 victory.
Talk about a versatile offense. Kam Rucker led the way with 22 points, five assists, and five rebounds, while Shy Babb recorded a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Deshawn Rucker (15 points) shined in the second half and DJ Reynolds netted 14 points.
Somerville dipped to 11-4.
Two miles away, KIPP (8-6) took care of Greater Lowell Tech 73-51. Viccee Howard (19 points, 6 steals) and Hernis Bethancourt (19 points, 14 rebounds) led the Panthers’ offense, while sharpshooter Joseph Beato connected four times from downtown.
Taleeb Lamina netted 14 points to go with 11 boards and Noel Segura dished out 10 assists (team-high). Uzias Ortiz also played a strong game.

Lynn Tech (10-5) struggled to find its rhythm and was beaten convincingly on the road. Guard Andy Batista is 15 points from 1,000 at the high school level.

Lynn English fell to 3-12 after a double-digit loss at home. The Bulldogs look to bounce back in Somerville Friday at 7 p.m.

Allison Morales (24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals) did a little bit of everything as Tech improved to 11-4. Contributing for the Tigers were Madison Sok (13 points), Juliana Gerardo (9 rebounds, 4 points, 4 steals), Cassidy Calef (8 rebounds), Mahlyna Williams (7 rebounds), and Jaylianniez Beauchamp (5 points).
TRACK AND FIELD
Lynn Classical and Lynn English took part in Thursday’s Greater Boston League championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. Despite Somerville cruising in both boys and girls competition, there were a handful of standouts for the Rams and Bulldogs.
Isaac Jean Charles (high jump – 3rd – 5-8; long jump – 4th – 19-3), Frederick Evans (long jump – 6th – 18-6), Echeme Dede (shot put – 6th – 38-05), Martin Kamara (300m – 7th – 39.03), Mariana De Leon Pinzon (600m – 4th – 1:47.44; long jump – 10th – 12-07.75), and Brandon Sok (2-mile – 7th – 11:45.93) impressed for Classical.
The Bulldogs were paced by Peter Akande (55m – 8th – 7.05), Ian De La Rosa (1,000m – 4th – 2:49.11), Precious Jonathan (high jump – 3rd – 4-08), and Delyanna Assade (long jump – 9th – 13-01.50).
