You know what I’ve been thinking? You can’t make a comeback without a deficit.
After finishing 7-13 last season, Saugus’ boys basketball team clinched a Division 3 state tournament berth last week. Coach Joe Bertrand and the Sachems stand at 10-8.
A three-game week saw Saugus defeat Northeast Metro (59-31 final), Peabody (64-55), and Gloucester (81-61). The victory against the Fishermen gave Saugus its all-important 10th win.
Bertrand called it a “great team effort” against Northeast. Jordan Rodriguez and
Ryan Shea scored in double figures to cap off Senior Night.
From there, against the Tanners, Saugus faced a six-point halftime deficit before battling back. Rodriguez (18 points), Huey Josama (17), and Ryan Dupuy (14) did most of the damage.
“We stepped up as a team,” Bertrand said.
Josama was a man on a mission against Gloucester, netting 30 points. Shea (22 points) and Rodriguez (15) helped the cause offensively.
At press time, Saugus ranks No. 35 in Div. 3.
The Sachems take on North Attleborough Monday with tip-off slated for 5 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham.
Saugus, good week.
