Swampscott — S.U.R.E. Diversity (Swampscott Unites, Respects, and Embraces Diversity) will host its fifth annual Swampscott Black History Month Celebration on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 5:30-7:30 pm at Swampscott High School. This year’s program will highlight art and music from Swampscott’s elementary, middle, and high school students.
The 2026 theme is Black History is OUR History! To start off the evening, at 5:30 p.m. in the Atrium, the high school jazz ensemble will perform, and free pizza and popcorn will add to the spirit of the evening. Elementary and middle school students will display artwork and wall decor. Later, the high school chorus and band will perform, including the high school jazz band Turtle on a Strong, celebrating this history. Modeled on the popular TV show, high school students will host an interactive game of Jeopardy with the category of Black History. Community Voices will showcase the experiences of past and present Swampscott High students.
“Let’s celebrate and recognize the contributions of Black Americans to Swampscott, the Commonwealth, and the nation, and show how our country has benefited from that rich heritage,” S.U.R.E. Chair Keli Khatib said. “We are excited that students from all Swampscott schools are participating.”
Joining Swampscott S.U.R.E. Diversity as event sponsors are the Town of Swampscott and Congregation Shirat Hayam/Justice For All. Event partners include METCO, First Church in Swampscott Congregational, Swampscott Historical Commission, and Swampscott’s Police Department and Fire Department.
