First-year St. Mary’s boys basketball coach Josh Keilty led Georgetown to a Division 4 state championship in 2025. Coaching new players in new colors, another run began Thursday.
His top-ranked Spartans (20-3) defeated No. 32 Minnechaug 74-45 inside of the Tony C. Gymnasium. Rolky Brea Arias (29 points) was the star of the show as St. Mary’s punched its ticket to the Div. 2 Sweet 16.
St. Mary’s hosts the winner of Friday’s game between No. 16 Foxborough and No. 17 Shepherd Hill (7 p.m.).
The Marblehead girls fought hard, but failed to advance in Div. 2. The No. 38 Magicians (13-9) lost to No. 27 Notre Dame Academy (Hingham) 50-44 in overtime.
Tess Andriano led the visitors, followed by Ainsley McDonald.
“All the seniors really played hard . . . they did a good job,” said Marblehead coach Paul Moran.
