SPRINGFIELD — The MIAA All-State wrestling tournament took place at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, where a number of local wrestlers made the trip to try and qualify for New Englands.

Lynnfield/North Reading

Lynnfield/North Reading had both Nate Barstow and Jakob Hullett competing at All-States.

Barstow, competing at the 113 pound division, defeated Zac Faria (North Attleboro) in a 11-9 decision before losing in the quarterfinals to Franklin’s John Woodall via technical fall.

Barstow competed in the consolation bracket defeating Christopher St. Peter. Unfortunately for Barstow in the seventh place match to qualify for New Englands, Barstow went up against Anthony Sateriale of Dedham and lost 14-1.

Hullett lost in the Round of 16 to Cedrick Daniel and then went 1-1 in the consolation bracket. Hullett defeated Abe Brown of Quabbin in the first consolation match, but lost to Weston’s Jisup Shin via technical fall at the 126 pounds division.

Marblehead/Swampscott

Anna Cruikshank of Marblehead/Swampscott dropped both of her matches at All-States. She lost in the Round of 16 to South Shore Voke’s Karalene Mitchell and later fell to Lincoln-Sudbury’s Alexa Figueroa in the consolation bracket.

Despite the losses, it was a historic season for Cruikshank, who became the first girl in program history to qualify for and compete at the Girls All-States, according to coach Michael Stamison.

At 138 pounds, Liam O’Brien opened with an 8-6 decision over Gloucester’s Aiden DeCoate. He then lost to Andover’s Jason Ballou by technical fall and was eliminated with a loss to Marlborough’s Isaac Silva in the consolation bracket.

O’Brien finished his career as the winningest wrestler in program history with 188 victories, according to Stamison.

Northeast Metro/Bishop Fenwick

Cassidy Robertson received a bye into the quarterfinals, where she pinned Taunton’s Camilly de Carvalho. Robertson then lost a 9-6 decision to Bridgewater-Raynham’s Nmachukwu Okoli in the semifinals.

In the consolation bracket, Robertson fell to Eva Eddy before losing by pin to Ludlow’s Riley Morais in the fifth-place match.

Sophomore Emilia Buggy placed sixth, finishing 3-3 in the tournament. She earned wins over Ainsley Southergill, Taylor Campanile and Brooke Lightfoot before dropping the fifth-place match to Ava Svistunov.

Saugus/Peabody

Michael Mariao placed sixth at 150 pounds. He reached the semifinals with wins over Michael Nigro in the Round of 16 and Caydon Boyd in the quarterfinals.

Mariao lost to Reading’s William Merkle by major decision in the semifinals and then fell to St. John’s Prep’s Will LaVallee, 7-3, in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Mariao dropped a 6-5 decision to Holliston’s Henry McElligott.

At 165 pounds, Cesar Cruz won his Round of 16 match with a 4-1 decision. He then lost a 6-4 decision to Nathan Hicks in the quarterfinals and was eliminated with a 9-8 loss to Tristan Lane in the consolation bracket.
