LYNN– A 16-year-old has been charged in connection with the October shooting death of Marie Molea, a 61-year-old Lynn native. She was killed near a Roxbury women’s shelter where she frequently stayed.
Boston police obtained a warrant for the teenager on Wednesday, according to a statement from department spokesperson Sergeant John Boyle. Authorities did not release his name because he is a minor, but confirmed he is from Needham and is already in custody on unrelated gun charges.
Molea was found lying face down beside a bus shelter on Washington Street on Oct. 13 and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The shooting occurred a few blocks from Rosie’s Place, a shelter and community center where Molea was a well-known figure.
The teenager was first arrested in late December after officers conducting a stop in Roxbury discovered a loaded gun in his pocket. At the time, police said officers saw him running at full speed toward Nubian Station while appearing hypervigilant. They noted he was swinging one arm freely while holding the other tightly against his jacket, gripping an object inside his pocket.
He now faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and illegal gun possession in connection with Molea’s death. He is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
