LYNN — The Lynn Police Department’s investigation into a shooting on Jackson Street has led to a murder arraignment in Lynn District Court.
According to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker, Jayden Maldonado, 14, of Lynn, was arraigned Friday on a charge of murder in connection with the death of Lionel Isaac Martinez, 18, also of Lynn.
The shooting occurred on Jan. 8, 2026, at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Jackson Street. Lynn police responded to reports of gunfire and found Martinez suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said he was conscious and alert when first responders arrived at the scene. He was transported to Salem Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries that evening.
At the time of the incident, Lynn Police Capt. Christopher Kelly said there was no ongoing threat to the general public. Police were observed photographing the scene and canvassing the neighborhood to determine whether nearby home security cameras captured any footage. Jackson Street and Ingalls Street were temporarily blocked off with yellow caution tape, with access allowed only for local residents.
Investigators located four evidence markers believed to indicate shell casings, though the exact number of shots fired was initially unclear.
Maldonado was arrested on Thursday and ordered held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court for a hearing on March 20.
All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
