The Lynn Classical (1-0) volleyball team opened its season with a road win, sweeping Wakefield 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
The Rams were led by senior setter Kenzel Lantano, who had 10 service aces, 26 assists and three digs. Junior outside hitter Riches Tep recorded 16 kills and four digs, while senior middle blocker Jon Chan added seven kills and three blocks.
“Tonight was an excellent team win. Everyone contributed,” Rams coach Chris LeBlanc said. “Kenzel and Riches were standouts all night. Going on the road and pulling out a win is always a challenge. Wakefield fought hard and will get better all year. I’m glad we got them early.
“Tomorrow is the first round of the City Championship and we’re excited to get underway. We’ve won it two years in a row and would love to make it three.”
The Lynn City Championship begins at Lynn Classical, with Lynn English facing KIPP Academy at 4 p.m., followed by Lynn Classical vs. Lynn Tech.

Bishop Fenwick fell to a strong Northeastern Conference opponent in its season opener.
The Crusaders will look for their first win Thursday when they travel to Marblehead for a 4:30 p.m. game.

Lynnfield struggled at home against a high-powered Melrose team. The Pioneers return to action on Tuesday, hosting Amesbury at 4 p.m.

St. Mary’s improved to 2-0 with a win over Watertown at Manning Field.
Ava Nason and Shaye Denning each scored four goals, while Alyssa Norden added a hat trick. Emma Gustin made 11 saves to keep the Spartans unbeaten.
Peabody 11
Dracut 8
Arianna Simpson scored four goals and Victoria Vaz had three goals and seven assists to lead Peabody to a road win.
Sophia Galbiati added two goals and won six draws.
“Sophia made a huge difference winning most of the draws for us,” Peabody coach Jess Upton said.
Brianna Symonds and Elizabeth Moore each scored, and Eleni Spack made six saves.

Winthrop edged Saugus at home. Avalina Coffey scored three goals, and Tegan Pereira also found the net.
The teams meet again Wednesday at Saugus at 4 p.m.

Marblehead dropped a close match, with two contests going three sets.
At first singles, Marblehead’s Ty Cooper defeated Sam Gomer 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 11-9, while TJ Kelly won at second singles, 6-3, 7-5.

St. Mary’s earned a road win in a tight match.
The Spartans secured the victory with wins at first and second doubles from Thomas Weber and Simon Tenorio, and Nathan Chavez and Ryan Gil.
Swampscott got singles wins from Sam Schepens (6-0, 6-1) and Julian Flacke (7-5, 6-3) but forfeited third singles.

The Pioneers opened their season with a convincing 5-0 win over North Andover.
Lily Alves won at first singles, and the first doubles team of Vicky McCrann and Christine Choi also won 6-0, 6-0.
Kami Khiat (second singles) won 6-4, 6-0, and Kathleen Brown (third singles) won 6-2, 6-2.
Olivia Asaad and Emma Wagon lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at second doubles.
