Saugus’ softball season was underway on Tuesday, but it didn’t go as planned. The Sachems lost 18-2 across five innings against visiting Manchester-Essex.
“We’ve seen better days,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “We took it on the chin today.”
Saugus allowed eight runs in the first inning and committed nine total errors.
Eighth grader Hannah Strout (2-for-2, 2 RBI) impressed in her first varsity outing. Also contributing for the Sachems were Alannah Duong, Sofia McCarrier, Maria Silva, and Ari Chianca, all of whom recorded hits.
“We’ll bounce back,” Almquist said. “We have Swampscott at home tomorrow (4:30 p.m.).”
