You know what I’ve been thinking? The champs are at it again.
St. John’s Prep’s lacrosse team, which has captured the Div. 1 state championship for the last five seasons, began the spring with three consecutive wins against Acton-Boxborough (13-1 final), Malden Catholic (13-0), and Saint John’s Shrewsbury (15-2).
That’s 41 goals scored and just three against. Not bad . . .
In their season-opening tilt, the Eagles were led by Ryan McCarthy’s six goals and two assists. Bo Minogue netted a hat trick and Will Crawford — to no one’s surprise — won 15 of 17 face-offs.
Days later, against Malden Catholic, Thias Tolo and Cam Mitchell submitted multi-goal games for The Prep, which won 13 of 15 face-offs as a team.
And against Saint John’s Shrewsbury, McCarthy ripped another five goals, while Beckett Lee went home with a hat trick.
The cherry on top: Trevor Nemeskal was named Player of the Game, recording two saves after missing the past two seasons due to injury.
Coach John Pynchon and company, good week.
