SWAMPSCOTT– Candidate for the 6th congressional district race, Rick Jakious, has suspended his campaign.
The Swampscott resident and former District Director and Chief of Staff for Rep. Seth Moulton released a statement detailing his departure from the race.
“I want to be honest about a reality in politics today: running for Congress requires access to significant wealth. That’s not how our democracy should work, but it is the system we’re in, and it’s the barrier I’ve run up against in this race,” he said in a statement.
He continued, “We are living in challenging and uncertain times, and too many people feel like the government is not working for them. They’re right. And that only strengthens my commitment to continue showing up and focusing on solving real problems for this community.”
Jakious added that he believes “the government should work for families and that strong communities are built when we take care of one another. This district is where I live, where I’ve raised my family, and I will always work hard to make it better for those who, like me, call it home.”
He said serving the community has been a “privilege,” and he has enjoyed “helping people see the good in government and standing alongside them when it falls short.
“Over the past six months, I’ve traveled across the district, listening and learning from people in every corner of our community,” he said. “I’m deeply grateful to everyone who opened their homes, shared their stories, and supported this campaign.”
