SALEM – In Essex County Superior Court today, Eddie Perez, 29, of Lawrence, pleaded guilty to eleven charges tied to targeted gunfire and was sentenced to ten years in state prison, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announces. The charges stem from an incident in the early morning hours of October 14, 2023, in which Perez fired multiple rounds of bullets at three individuals at the intersection of Common Street and Newbury Street in Lawrence, causing the intended targets to fear for their lives. The investigation was led by the Lawrence Police Department.
Appearing before the Hon. William Bloomer today, Perez pleaded guilty to three counts of armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and five firearms-related charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without a firearm ID card, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), and a firearm violation with a prior violent/drug crime. Bloomer sentenced Perez to ten years to ten years and one day in state prison, to be followed by three years of probation.
Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Shugrue represented the Commonwealth in the case, and Cristina Garcia served as victim/witness advocate. The defendant was represented by attorney Kirk Bransfield.
