Roundup: Lynn Tech volleyballers sweep at home

Lynn Tech’s volleyball team took care of visiting Salem Academy 3-0 in set scores of 28-26, 25-15, and 25-13 Friday evening.

Do-it-all Felipe Oliveira led the Tigers with 13 kills, three digs, two blocks, and two aces. Also contributing were Jayden Chiep (19 assists, 5 digs), Sam Caraballo (12 digs, 5 kills, 4 aces), Manny Dosreis (7 aces, 2 digs), Dalvin Ruiz (8 digs, 4 aces, 4 assists), Anthony Reid (9 digs), Amauri Bermudez (6 kills), and Kevin Robles (5 digs).

Tech, which has won two of its last three matches, upped its record to 2-5 ahead of Saturday’s match at KIPP Academy (11:45 a.m.).

BASEBALL

Gloucester 1
Peabody 0

Peabody’s Max Silvia tossed a complete game, allowing five hits and one walk to go with seven strikeouts. Jake Crocker batted 1-for-3 with the Tanners’ only hit.

St. Mary’s 9
Malden Catholic 0

Through the efforts of Nate Cutone (1-for-4, HR, 4 RBI), Jake Peterson (3-for-3), and JJ Avery (W, 4 2/3 IP, 2 H, 3 K), the Spartans (5-1) rattled off their fifth consecutive win.

SOFTBALL

Marblehead 7
Medford 0

No home field, no problem for Marblehead, which improved to 6-1 with Friday’s shutout win. Tessa Francis allowed just two hits and punched out a dozen batters. Nora Mahan and Ashley Mortensen recorded three hits apiece, while Hailey Schmitt and Isabel Mortensen also compiled hits.

Hamilton-Wenham 10
Saugus 5

Saugus (4-4) hit the road and returned home empty-handed. Pacing the Sachems were Sydney Deleidi (3 H, 2 RBI), Maria Silva (H), Layla DeMonte (2 doubles, RBI), and Aubrey DeMonte (2B, 2 R).

“Good effort by the kids today. We just fell a little bit short and had one bad inning,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist, referring to the second inning. “We hit the ball well — right on the nose.”

GIRLS LACROSSE

St. Mary’s 15
Bishop Fenwick 9

St. Mary’s remained unbeaten with Friday’s Catholic Central League win. Alyssa Norden (6 goals) and Ava Nason (5) led the Spartans’ scoring department.
