Former President Joe Biden announced his endorsement of Dan Koh in the Massachusetts 6th Congressional District primary Monday morning, stating that Koh “will be one heck of a congressman.”
Koh served as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Cabinet Secretary at the White House, where he worked closely with the President’s Cabinet to implement legislation rebuilding America’s infrastructure, creating clean energy jobs, investing in education, and lowering prescription drug costs for seniors.
“You did a heck of a job for my administration. You really did… Nothing would make me prouder than to be able to endorse you,” Biden said to Koh via phone call.
Biden later stated, “Dan Koh is a fighter who delivers for working people. I saw firsthand in my administration: When people needed help, Dan was there. He made sure they had what they needed — because he cares deeply about making government work for ordinary people.”
Koh, reflecting on the considerate endorsement that had him smiling ear to ear, thought back to his time spent with Biden in the Oval Office. Koh said Biden’s unwavering commitment to local leaders and ordinary people is the kind of leadership that inspired his campaign for Congress.
He added that he is humbled by Biden’s trust and pledged to bring that same tireless dedication to the people of Massachusetts’ 6th District.
“President Biden’s endorsement is an incredible honor,” Koh said. “He is a steadfast leader who delivers for our most vulnerable every day — showing up, delivering, and never forgetting who (the) government is supposed to serve. That kind of leadership is exactly what inspired me to run. Everything we fought for — the progress we made for working families — is under attack right now by President Trump. I’m running to fight back and deliver. I am deeply grateful for his trust and his support in this race.”
The former president, over the phone, jokingly told Koh that he would happily “come and campaign for you if you want me to,” to which Koh enthusiastically replied, “Hey, listen, every door, every diner, I know will want to see you here, so anytime you want to come, you are warmly welcome.”
“Go get ‘em, pal,” Biden concluded, adding, “As my dad would say, ‘Keep the faith, pal. We’ve got a lot to do.’”
Koh’s campaign has gained critical momentum thanks to more than 60 endorsements from local and national elected officials and community leaders, union locals, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Secretary Pete Buttigieg, while raising a record-breaking more than $3.5 million since the campaign’s launch, a record for a Massachusetts House candidate.
