Underclassmen ran away with the weekend as the Catholic Central League, Northeastern Conference, and Commonwealth Athletic Conference (Lower Division) held freshman/sophomore meets.
St. Mary’s stole the show at Archbishop Williams High. The boys (201 points) and girls (162) secured victories, while Lea Deronja and Lucian Paula took home Most Valuable Player awards.
Deronja won the 200m (27.30), 400m (1:03.35), and long jump (16-2.5), while Paula cruised through the 800m (2:09.17).
McKenna O’Connell (800m – 2:32.63; mile – 5:49.15), John Bettencourt (mile – 5:02.45), Cristian Rodriguez (2-mile – 13:03.25), Mia Tatis (2-mile – 13:28.02), Isaiah Balaba (high jump – 5-03), Justin Aiken (long jump – 17-6.75), James Ridley (shot put – 35-7), and Faith Guy (shot put – 24-5) also snatched first-place finishes for the Spartans.
As for Bishop Fenwick — which saw its boys place sixth and girls third — Jane Koulopoulos took first in the discus (63-01) and javelin (88-11). Both 4x100m relay teams also triumphed.
At Innovation Academy, the Lynn Tech boys (220 points) and girls (190) were double winners. KIPP Academy’s boys placed third (61) and girls fourth (32).
Tech’s Anthony Brown (100m – 11.87; 200m – 24.24; long jump – 20-00), Hephzibah Okusanya (100m – 14.19; 200m – 30.46), Vanessa Duran (100mh – 19.68), Defi Beasnan (400m – 57.45; triple jump – 36-11), Teran Clarke (400mh – 1:06.22), Kissairy Crespo (800m – 2:49.94), Wilmarlyn Fernandez (mile – 6:38.71; 2-mile – 13:37.76), Bradly Cerda (high jump – 5-00), Marcus Owens (javelin – 100-08), and Josephiene Koroma (shot put – 26-10) compiled first-place finishes.
KIPP’s Douglas Molina Jr. won the 110mh (16.58).
In NEC action at Gloucester High, the Peabody girls (133) and Danvers boys (128) recorded wins. The Peabody boys placed second (123), followed by Gloucester (92) and Marblehead (92).
Peabody’s Avani Ingham (400m – 1:01.56; triple jump – 31-11), Luke Murphy (2-mile – 11:44.11), Ella Braz (2-mile – 12:54.70), Zaiden Nazaire (discus – 129-11), Izaiah Arce (shot put – 43-5.50), and Marianna Pinot-Gomez (shot put – 29-5.50) were victorious.
Nate Bentley (800m – 2:06.10) and Clark Roszell (high jump – 6-02) won their respective events for Marblehead.
