To the editor:
I am writing this letter to address the needs of a population in the city that you consistently seem to be overlooking. We are seniors who live in this city and pay taxes. We take pride in the fact that we don’t just live in Lynn, we are from Lynn. Our families have been here for generations, working to keep this city alive and thriving.
We are the in-betweens. We are living on social security and pensions. We do not make enough money to comfortably pay our bills, but make just over the limit for any assistance.
There seems to be two groups of people that city leaders are focusing on: the wealthy contractors that have been invited into the city with promised tax breaks to overbuild, and those needing assistance. Almost monthly, we read in the paper that the city is initiating a new program that our tax dollars will support.
Where is our help? Our taxes continue to increase. Any added “benefit” comes with additional fees. It never seems to be enough.
I would strongly urge you not only to discuss but also to implement a tax break for seniors. You are pricing us out of our homes and a city that we love.
Barbara Cole
