LYNN — Just days after securing Commonwealth Athletic Conference titles, Lynn Tech’s track and field program continued its dominance with a pair of league meet wins.
The boys won the lower division meet with 165 points, well ahead of second-place Innovation Academy (98). First-place finishers were Angel Rivera (800m – 2:12.88) and Francis Ucheighie (high jump – 5-08), as well as the 4x100m (45.04), 4x400m (4:22.42), and 4x800m (9:53.58) relay teams.
“I was so proud of everyone on this team,” said boys coach John Hogan. “Some didn’t come away with medals, but won by doing their best. The team has done better with each week and each big meet.”
The girls were victorious with 224 points. Second place went to Nashoba Valley Tech (138) and triple-winner Kassandra Pena (200m – 27.30; 400m – 1:01.77; 4x400m – 12:39.68) was named Most Valuable Player.
Vanessa Duran (100mh – 19.49), Kissairy Crespo (800m – 2:39.86 – school record), Isabella Cortez (discus – 87-00), and Zahara Belizaire (javelin – 75-07; shot put – 28-11) also snatched first-place nods — as did the 4x100m (54.27) and 4x800m (12:39.68) relay teams.
“My girls earned it this year,” said girls coach James Runner. “I’m so proud of them.”
Hogan and Runner received Coach of the Year awards.
The Tigers will compete in Tuesday’s Lynn All-City Track and Field Championship, slated for 3 p.m. at Manning Field.
