MARBLEHEAD — It was a strong spring season for the Magicians, with every team qualifying for the postseason.
Starting on the tennis courts, both the boys and girls teams captured the Dunn Division title in the Northeastern Conference.
The girls team finished 12-7 and featured three All-Conference selections: Joy Meshulam, Caroline Bruett and Samara Dosch. Callie Gilmore, Sophie Li, Harper Mooney and Lilly O’Keefe earned All-Star honors.
One of the season’s standout moments came in the state tournament opener against Nauset Regional. After suffering a 5-0 loss to Winchester in the regular-season finale, Marblehead responded with a convincing 4-1 victory to advance to the Round of 16. The doubles teams of Mooney and O’Keefe, and Meshulam and Bruett, earned victories, while Dosch and Li won their singles matches.
The boys team brought home hardware after advancing to the state semifinals. Marblehead defeated North Attleborough and Grafton before facing No. 4 Walpole in the quarterfinals. The Magicians earned a 3-2 road victory to punch their ticket to the Final 4.
Against Walpole, second singles player TJ Kelly won 6-2, 6-2, while first doubles partners Adam Loughlin and Alex Boehning posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory. With the match hanging in the balance, first singles player Ty Cooper clinched the deciding point with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Despite entering the postseason as an underdog, the girls lacrosse team opened tournament play with a 15-12 victory over No. 32 Tantasqua Regional. Another highlight came in April when sophomore Zoe Dwyer recorded her 100th career point against Salem.
The boys lacrosse team showed resilience throughout the season. Following an 10-8 loss to Newburyport, the Magicians responded with a seven-game winning streak that included victories over Swampscott, Beverly and Masconomet. In the postseason, Marblehead upset No. 13 Westborough, 8-7.
The baseball team opened tournament play with a win over Lynn Classical and came within a few outs of upsetting eventual Division 2 runner-up Milton in the Round of 16. Marblehead regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning before surrendering a walk-off home run.
In softball, Tessa Francis continued to shine. In a win over Saugus, Francis struck out 12 batters and went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
The track and field teams also enjoyed a successful spring.
On the girls side, Sarah Munroe, Marietta O’Connell, Eleanor Morgan and Norah Walsh qualified for nationals in Eugene, Oregon, in both the 4×1-mile relay and the 4×800-meter relay. O’Connell also competed individually in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
For the boys, Colin Hart and Clark Roszell represented Marblehead at the MIAA Meet of Champions at Merrimack College. Hart finished the 400-meter hurdles in 57.33 seconds, while Roszell cleared 6-02 in the high jump.
From conference championships to deep postseason runs and individual milestones, Marblehead’s spring athletes had a season to remember.
