PEABODY — Rep. Thomas P. Walsh (D-Peabody) and Ward 3 Councilor Stephanie Peach announced that language included in a recent supplemental budget passed by the legislature and signed by Gov. Maura Healey includes $20,000 to conduct a comprehensive traffic study of Margin Street from the Danvers border to the Salem line.
Margin Street, also numbered Route 35, serves as the primary link from Danversport to downtown Salem. Dozens of unsignalized side street intersections from the Danvers border to Salem create many points of access and egress along this busy roadway. Traffic from Route 114 is absorbed by Margin Street where the two roadways merge at the Gardner Street intersection.
“I have heard loud and clear from neighborhood residents and motorists alike that this busy stretch of roadway needs attention,” Walsh said. “I am pleased to collaborate with Councilor Peach and secure Fair Share funding to conduct a traffic study of Margin Street, a crucial first step for any future improvements.”
Peach said, “This funding is an important first step in addressing long standing traffic and safety concerns on Margin Street and in the surrounding neighborhoods. I appreciate Rep. Walsh’s partnership in securing funding for this much needed study. The findings will help guide future improvements to make the area safer for everyone.”
The supplemental budget, House Bill 5470 “An Act making appropriations for the fiscal year 2026 to provide for supplementing certain existing appropriations and for certain other activities and projects,” was signed by the governor on June 12.
