The sky over Red Rock Park and King’s Beach will light up with fireworks Friday night, thanks in part to the generosity of local businesses and individuals. Nick Meninno of Meninno Construction raised almost $25,000 for the Lynn Fireworks Fund in memory of his late father, Nick, and presented the check to the Fireworks Fund Committee and Mayor Jared C. Nicholson Wednesday.
“My father was a proud American who enjoyed the fireworks and was especially proud to call Lynn home,” Meninno said. “This is important, especially this year with the 250th (birthday of the country). We’re committed to keeping it going.”
Lisa Nerich of the Fireworks Committee said the donations submitted by Meninno will go a long way toward meeting the fundraising goal of $65,000. A carnival held to raise money for the fireworks brought in $21,000, Nerich said.
“The fireworks celebration is an important event that our residents look forward to with great anticipation every year,” Nicholson said. “We greatly appreciate those who have provided financial support and all the volunteers who work so hard to make it a fun family activity.”
Donors include: Old Neighborhood Foods, Meninno Construction, Atlantic Paving, Centercorp Swampscott Mall, Connolly Brothers, D&R Paving, Irvine & Sons Plumbing, Dandreo Brothers, Complete Cleaning, and McGrath Enterprises.
Donations to the Lynn Fireworks Fund are still being accepted. Checks can be made out to the City of Lynn Fireworks Committee and mailed to: Lynn City Hall, Room 304, Lynn, MA 01901.
