SAUGUS — Timothy Gregory, 55, of Boston, and Derek Matarazzo, 38, of Charlestown, were arraigned Wednesday in Essex County Superior Court regarding charges from a May 3 armed home invasion on Oakwood Avenue in Saugus, District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announced.
Calls came in just after noon that Sunday with reports of two masked men, dressed in all black and armed with handguns, breaking into a home on the street.
Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli had reported that shots had been fired, but no one was injured.
In a statement that day, the department noted that two men, Gregory and Matarazzo, were detained. Immediately after the arrest, the department stated that the two men were the only ones involved and that it was believed to be an isolated incident.
The men appeared on Zoom before the Hon. Salim Tabit, both pleading not guilty to home invasion, two counts of armed assault in a dwelling, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, larceny over $1,200, and carrying a firearm without a license.
Attorney Grace Edwards represents Gregory, and Joseph Smith represents Matarazzo.
Judge Tabit ordered that the defendants remain held without bail, without prejudice, pending the result of a detention hearing scheduled for July 29, according to the DA Tucker’s release.
All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
