MARBLEHEAD — The Marblehead Water and Sewer Commission is helping to hold a free screening of the award-winning documentary film “Unless Something Goes Terribly Wrong” at Cinema Salem on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
“Unless Something Goes Terribly Wrong” depicts the struggles many wastewater plants face as the systems in place age. Clean water is an aspect of life many people have the privilege of not thinking about.
While the film focuses on Portland, Maine, the issues the Portland Water District faces are the same ones Marblehead faces due to old systems, and people who work tirelessly to ensure water remains a basic utility and not a luxury privilege.
Thanks to the work of water utility workers, our communities get to use clean water daily, but these systems could still fail due to age. The film addresses these worries directly and showcases the struggles these workers face.
The event will provide an in-depth discussion on how wastewater plants operate and the hard work local water plants do every day to ensure their communities have access to clean water.
The night will kick off with speeches from local representatives and sponsors, including Salem’s Ward 1 City Councilor, Erin Turowski, and SESD’s Executive Director, David Michelson.
While the event is free, attendees are encouraged to donate to support the film crew and their future projects. The event registration can be found on Eventbrite.
