SAUGUS — Surrounded by family, friends, caregivers, and community members, Jose Gonzales Rivera celebrated an extraordinary milestone on Saturday, his 105th birthday, with a joyful gathering honoring a life defined by resilience, love, and perseverance.
As part of the celebration, Vitra Health, one of Massachusetts’ leading home- and community-based healthcare organizations, proudly presented José with its inaugural Living Legacy Award, recognizing his remarkable life journey and the lasting impact he has made on generations of family and community. The award honors individuals whose lives exemplify strength, compassion, and the values that inspire others.
José, who receives support through Vitra Health’s Adult Foster Care program, has become an inspiration to many. His story reflects the mission of Vitra Health, helping older adults and individuals with disabilities remain safely at home while empowering family caregivers with the resources, clinical support, and compensation they need to provide compassionate care.
For more than a century, José has witnessed incredible moments in history while building a life rooted in family, perseverance, and hope. Today, it is the unwavering care of his daughter and caregiver, Suyapa, that allows him to continue living comfortably at home, surrounded by those he loves most.
