MARBLEHEAD — A community vigil is planned for Saturday, July 25, at 5 p.m. in Marblehead as part of a nationwide day of standouts and vigils organized in response to the recent deaths of two people during encounters involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Organizers said the event will coincide with Marblehead’s weekly Saturday standout, located at the intersection of Maple and Lafayette streets (Route 114), and will include remarks from the Rev. Mimi Hollister of Old North Church. Hollister will offer brief reflections and read prayers from the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions to open the vigil.
The program will also include the reading of the names of ICE victims, followed by a moment of silence and a poem.
Organizers said the vigil is intended to honor those who have died and to express opposition to ICE policies and actions. The event is open to the public.
