LYNN — The Lynn Police Department celebrated a proud and emotional occasion as Joseph Ricupero was promoted from patrolman to sergeant. The ceremony brought together friends, family, fellow officers, and city officials, all gathered to recognize his hard work and dedication.

The room carried a strong sense of pride, not only for Ricupero’s achievement, but for the journey that led him there.

Police Chief Christopher Reddy spoke about the significance of the promotion, emphasizing the sacrifices behind the moment.

“These are always really special occasions, because the work that goes into earning a promotion is significant. The time commitment, time away from family,” Reddy gestured to Ricupero’s daughter, “time away from children, it’s a lot.”

Reddy continued, “So it’s really an honor to be able to be here and witness you (Ricupero) being sworn in… the rank of sergeant. Thank you for all your work to get yourself here, and we know you’re gonna do great things in the future.”

Mayor Jared Nicholson also addressed the crowd, speaking on behalf of the city.

“I just want to say how excited we are, for you and for the department…we appreciate all the tremendous sacrifice… and how demanding the role of a police officer is.” He emphasized the importance of officers who serve on the front lines, supporting residents through difficult moments and ensuring public safety.

He added that the city is “so grateful and so excited for all that you will be adding to the city and your new leadership role.”

Nicholson closed with a heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the entire community.

The ceremony reached its solemn moment when City Clerk James Lamanna administered the oath. As Ricupero repeated the same words, pledging to uphold the Constitution and faithfully serve the city, the room stood in silence in respect.

With the final words, “So help me God,” Ricupero officially stepped into his new role, surrounded by the unwavering support of those who helped him reach this milestone.
