The Lynn Tech baseball team took care of business at Fraser Field, defeating Rockport 7-3 in its season opener.
Sophomore Jonas Perez got the start and struck out eight batters, while Jendol Diaz registered the save.
“It’s very early, and I have no doubt the bats will get going as the season goes on. We were able to take advantage on the basepaths today, and the team did a great job of applying a ton of pressure whenever they got an opportunity,” Tigers head coach Eddie Lewis said. “The guys did a great job playing for one another today.”
Offensively, Richard Naugle went 3-for-3, while Eddie Lewis Jr. had one hit and two RBI, which sparked the Tigers rally. Colin Newhall finished the game with two hits.
Lynn Tech’s next game is Monday on the road against Northeast Metro at 4:30 p.m.
BASEBALL
Swampscott 14
Saugus 0
Swampscott hosted Saugus at DeFelice Diamond for its season opener. The Big Blue got a big performance from senior Jamison Ford, who pitched a no-hit, five-inning shutout with six strikeouts. On offense, Ford helped himself with an RBI single and a walk.
The Big Blue got out of the gates quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning before piling on 11 in the fourth. Senior Connor Chiarello got on base three times, scored three runs and stole two bases. Chiarello also registered an RBI.
Michael Collins had a three-hit game, including a double and four RBIs, for Swampscott. Dylan Difilippo (2 RBIs), Chase Groothuis (1) and Cooper Correnti (1) all recorded an RBI.
For Saugus, Brayden Crawford got the start, allowing nine runs, but just three were earned. Nathan Soroko reached base twice and had a stolen base.
Swampscott will look for win No. 2 on Monday when it hosts Bishop Fenwick at 4:30 p.m. Saugus will look to bounce back Monday when it welcomes Winthrop to World Series Park at 5 p.m.

Marblehead 0
The Magicians committed five errors, which proved costly, as they were defeated on home soil by the Hornets.
In the sixth inning, Marblehead had the bases loaded, but the Hornets got out of the jam by forcing a double play.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lynnfield 16
Bishop Fenwick 7
Behind Hayden Valiton’s seven goals and one assist, the Pioneers (2-0) got the better of Bishop Fenwick at home.
The game was close, as Lynnfield led 7-6 at halftime. In the second half, the Pioneers scored four and conceded none to take an 11-6 lead into the final quarter. Lynnfield’s offense didn’t settle, adding another five goals in the fourth for the win.
Ava Damiani (5 goals, 3 assists) and Jordan Calichman (2 goals, 1 assist) performed well for the hosts. Olivia Adams and Marcella DiMaria each scored a goal.
Valiton had 11 draw controls, while Audrey Curley (5), Calichman (4) and Damiani (1) led the way in draw controls.
Lynnfield’s Olivia Bossi made eight saves, while Bishop Fenwick’s Eve Eastman made 13.
TRACK AND FIELD
St. Mary’s
Both the St. Mary’s girls and boys track and field teams were victorious over the weekend. The girls defeated Cathedral (110-17) and Arlington Catholic (85-48) to start the season 2-0.
Jazmin Rodriguez (400-meter hurdles, high jump), Princess-Kailyn Njika (200 meters), Yomary Nunez (javelin), Russell Cazeau (100-meter hurdles) and Mia Deleon Lara (400 meters) led the way for the Spartans.
The boys also went 2-0 in the meet, defeating Cathedral (90-44) and Arlington Catholic (102-39). Jason Perry (high jump, 100 meters), Jed Ocio (long jump), Josiah Madden (200 meters, triple jump) and James Ridley (shot put, discus) highlighted the day.
St. John’s Prep
The Eagles got off to a perfect start, beating Catholic Memorial and Boston College High.
St. John’s Prep defeated BC High and Catholic Memorial to move to 2-0.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Tyson Stroope took first place with a time of 15.20 seconds, while Cam Carangelo finished third (16.89).
Hunter Opal finished first in the 800 meters to help propel St. John’s Prep.
