LTTE: Why I’m voting for Ted Dooley in Swampscott

To the editor

April 20, 2026 by To the editor

To the editor:

I’ve known Ted Dooley and his family since they moved to Swampscott about eight years ago, and over that time, I’ve come to deeply respect how he shows up for this community. We currently serve together on the Harbor Waterfront Advisory Committee, where I’ve seen firsthand his ability to work through differing opinions and keep conversations focused, productive, and meaningful.

What stands out most is his thoughtful, steady approach when engaging with people, especially in spaces like local social media, where discussions can quickly become tense. Ted doesn’t engage to score points. He listens carefully, responds with clarity, and communicates in a way that is both respectful and informative. Even when there is disagreement, he has a way of grounding the conversation so it remains constructive.

That’s not easy to do, and it speaks volumes about his character. He cares not only about getting things right, but also about how people are treated along the way. In a town like Swampscott, where perspectives can differ, but where we share a deep commitment to the community, that approach truly matters.

I’ve seen firsthand the time and care he puts into engaging with residents and supporting the community. He takes this responsibility seriously, and that’s exactly the kind of steady, accountable leadership we need on the Select Board.

At a time when it’s easy for local government to feel divided, Ted brings a calm, thoughtful, and genuinely community-focused approach. That’s why I’m voting for him.

Swampscott would be well served by Ted Dooley.
