Peabody’s NexMex now open through Cinco de Mayo

PEABODY — The NexMex Thing, a Mexican restaurant located at 5 Central St., has decided to keep its doors open in Peabody for just a bit longer before it temporarily closes and moves to Lynn, at 125 Lynnfield St., in early June.

The NexMex Thing was originally planning for its last day in business to be Thursday, but due to the outpouring of “love, support, and kind words” from the Peabody community, it decided to remain open until Cinco de Mayo.

The NexMex Thing will be moving to Lynn because of the hardships that came with the approximately $20 million Central Street Improvement Project, which began in the spring of 2024 and is projected to require another few years before the work is finished.

The project has resulted in road closures and detours which have negatively impacted the restaurant, notably forcing The NexMex Thing to discontinue its lunch service.

The restaurant is asking community members to come by and show support by grabbing a last meal at the Peabody location before the temporary closure.

“We are deeply grateful to the people of this community for welcoming us, supporting us, and allowing us the honor of serving you over the years,” the announcement read. “It has truly meant everything to us and our family… Thank you for a decade of memories, support, and community. We hope to serve you again soon.”
