Call it a stellar Saturday for Swampscott’s baseball team, which extended its winning streak to seven games and punched its Div. 3 state tournament ticket. The Big Blue (10-3, 8-1 Northeastern Conference) took down host Peabody 11-5.
Tommy Cuttle (4 1/3, 5 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 4 K) secured his second win of the spring. Caden Ross entered in relief, allowing three hits and striking out two batters across 2 2/3 innings.
Michael Collins’ three-run double highlighted Swampscott’s six-run second inning. Dylan DiFilippo, Aidan Brown, and Connor Chiarello chipped in RBI during the inning.
DiFilippo and Isaiah Baires led the Big Blue with two hits apiece, while Peabody’s Ty Lomasney was a home run short of a cycle.

Despite Saturday’s loss, Classical’s (8-6) Kevin Severino (8 R, 7 H, 5 BB, 6 K) secured his first varsity start and “pitched great through four innings,” according to coach Jason Rogato. Yunier Moreno (2 IP, H, 2 K) pitched well in relief, while Jayden Barragan (1-for-3, 2 RBI) led the Rams’ offense.
Masconomet 7

BOYS LACROSSE
Manchester-Essex 13
Swampscott 9
Despite solid games from Swampscott’s John von Barta (3 goals, 2 assists), Emerson Joy (goal), Johnny Marino (2 goals), Tyler Ostroff (goal, 2 assists), Ollie Braham (2 goals), Jason Rothwell (2 assists), Colton Alex (11 saves), and Luke Michigan (18 face-off wins), the Big Blue couldn’t climb back from a 5-2 first-quarter deficit.
“We had a great battle with Manchester-Essex today,” said Swampscott coach Geoff Beckett. “The boys played with grit against a talented Manchester-Essex team.”
Marblehead 9
Lexington 6
Tyler Forbes (4 goals, assist) and Colin Maniaci (5 saves) led Marblehead to a narrow win at Piper Field. With Saturday’s victory, the Magicians (10-3) are state tournament-bound in Div. 2.
GIRLS TENNIS
Newburyport 5
Marblehead 0
The Magicians came up empty-handed in Newburyport, falling to 7-4.
“We always have great battles with them (Clippers), but this time, they dominated play, winning all five matches in straight sets. We were at a disadvantage right away, having to move indoors due to the rain,” said Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman. “Their players adapted to the indoor courts much better than we did as they have opportunities throughout the season to play indoors if the weather is an issue. We will move forward from this match and focus on our remaining schedule.”
