Tuesday’s game was for the Lynnfield baseball seniors, and they “led by example” on Senior Day, according to coach John O’Brien. The Pioneers (8-8) cruised by Rockport 10-0.
Seniors Harris Hadzihasanovic (3 H, 3 RBI), Dylan Nguyen (2 H), and Matt Tracy (RBI, 2 R) did offensive damage. Also contributing were Chase McEwen (2 H), James Cassidy (2 H, 2 RBI), and winning pitcher Joey Wozniak (5 IP, H, 6 K).
“We needed someone to throw strikes and that’s what he did,” O’Brien said of Wozniak. “We struggled Monday against Newburyport . . . and the kids came ready to play today.”
O’Brien and company return Thursday for a road game against Amesbury. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Swampscott’s David Palmer (5 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 K) went the distance and picked up his second shutout of the spring. The Big Blue (12-3, 9-1 Northeastern Conference) offense was led by Chase Groothuis (3 H, 5 RBI), as well as Sam Baran, Dylan DiFilippo, Michael Collins, and Jamison Ford, all of whom collected RBI.

Olivia Rodriguez and Brooke Braswell smashed home runs, but Classical (10-5) fell after the game was tied, 2-2, during the fifth inning. Rams’ coach Joe Morin credited Minuteman pitcher Alyssa Collins.
“Easily the best pitcher we saw all year and she was able to slow us down with 17 strikeouts,” Morin said. “When we executed our bunts, we got on base, but that’s the type of pitcher we want to see for the state tournament.”

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Lynn Classical placed seventh out of eight teams in the Greater Boston League Meet. Mariana De Leon earned three top-three finishes, including a personal record in the mile.
The 4x400m relay team of Leon, Bianca Christalin, Macee Deronzil, and Jayliana Wesley “delivered its best performance of the season,” according to coach Brendan Morris. The group ranked eighth prior to the meet, but finished second.
Christalin also placed fourth in the 400mh.
