In a back-and-forth lacrosse battle between Eagles, No. 2 St. John’s Prep’s quest for a sixth consecutive state championship was derailed by No. 6 Boston College High in an overtime thriller in the Div. 1 semifinals. BC High escaped, 11-10, at Burlington High.
The Prep bowed out with a 19-3 record.
Trailing, 10-9, after a Prep goal from Ryan McCarthy with less than a minute to go in regulation, BC’s Nathan Rogers scored to force overtime with four seconds to go, then sealed the deal with the game-winner in overtime.
Ryan McCarthy (4 goals) staked The Prep to a 1-0 lead in the first. After back-to-back goals from BC, Prep’s Paul Kosinski (2 goals) and Will Crawford scored one goal each in the final 11 seconds to put the Eagles on top, 3-2, after one and 5-4 after second-quarter goals from Josh Barton and Kosinski.
Thais Tolo, McCarthy, and Beckett Lee bumped Prep’s lead to 8-6 with one quarter to go. McCarthy increased the lead to 9-7 with about eight minutes on the clock, only to see BC tie the game, 9-9, with six minutes left.
BC will face off against top-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury (TBD).

The Magicians’ magical ride came to a screeching halt Tuesday at the hands of the Rangers, who showed they were the top Div. 2 seed for a reason. Marblehead came into the match riding a 15-match winning streak and had not lost since April 29.
But this day belonged to the Rangers, who will face No. 3 Duxbury (TBD) for all the marbles. Duxbury punched its ticket to the championship match with Monday’s 3-2 win against No. 7 Sharon.
The Magicians finished 20-3.
