LYNN — Two Lynn Police Department officers were sworn in during a ceremony Monday afternoon at the department headquarters, where city officials, loved ones, and colleagues came together to celebrate their commitment and dedication to serving the city.
The celebration marked a major milestone for officers Keenan Kostyk and Timothy Martin, who are the only two Lynn officers, out of 55 in the state, to graduate from the Municipal Police Training Committee Lynnfield Police Academy’s 8th recruit officer class.
Lynn Police Chief Christopher P. Reddy thanked the new officers’ support systems for creating a strong foundation of encouragement as they went through the intense 24-week training program.
“We say all the time when new officers arrive here… they don’t get here alone,” Reddy said. “The support you provide as family members really is critical, and you’ll hear it over and over again, because it’s that important.”
Building on Reddy’s remarks to the new officers’ families, Mayor Jared C. Nicholson expressed his gratitude to Kostyk and Martin, with a message he hopes they’ll carry forward in their responsibilities.
“Please know going forward that we recognize this is a challenging role,” Nicholson said. “It comes with significant sacrifice and danger, and we are here to support you and be grateful for the work that you will be doing to protect and serve our residents.”
Both Kostyk and Martin shared their excitement about their first day on the force, which will be Tuesday, highlighting what a great opportunity it is to serve the City of Lynn.
In his closing remarks, Reddy noted that reaching this point required significant hard work from both officers.
“It’s no joke to get here,” Reddy said.
