A video posted on social media appears to show Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) knocking a cell phone out of the hand of an individual who was recording him.
The interaction took place Tuesday night in Medford outside of Moulton’s 49th town hall, as part of his statewide listening tour.
The video, posted Wednesday on X by Fox News Political Editor Cameron Cawthorne, shows an individual approaching Moulton and asking, “Congressman Moulton, do you endorse Graham Platner? Do you endorse Graham Platner in Maine?”
As Moulton approaches the individual and asks for his identity, the video appears to show him striking the phone, causing it to fall from the individual’s hand. Afterward, Moulton is heard saying, “You’ve got to do a better job at hanging onto your phone.”
Following the incident, Moulton defended his actions in a post Wednesday on X, writing, “Typical MAGA to classify an @AmericaRising tracker as a ‘reporter.’ I’m not going to apologize for how much MAGA pisses me off. I’ll take them on anywhere, anytime, and I won’t back down. If this tracker can’t handle a reality check or hold onto his own equipment, that’s on him. Sorry not sorry.”
Moulton’s post included a screenshot of an @RNCResearch post featuring an image of the incident from a Fox News broadcast. The post described the individual as a reporter and claimed Moulton had a “MAJOR meltdown” after being questioned about his support for Graham Platner.
According to Moulton campaign officials, the individual was not a reporter.
Taylor Hebble, a spokesperson for Moulton’s campaign, said in a statement, “To be absolutely clear, the individual in the video is a paid MAGA tracking operative who has repeatedly harassed our campaign staff and Seth at multiple stops along Seth’s cross-Commonwealth Listening Tour. This is the same political movement whose dangerous, extreme rhetoric has already subjected Seth, his staff, and his family — including his young daughters — to death threats and severe security concerns.
“While Seth is always highly protective of his family and team’s safety, he will absolutely not let these people bully or intimidate him into staying silent. He will always stand his ground, protect his people, and tell the truth. Seth is a fighter who will always take on MAGA, and he has no intention of backing down,” the statement continued.
The question posed to Moulton concerned Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee challenging incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) in Maine’s U.S. Senate race.
Moulton is in the middle of his own political campaign, challenging incumbent Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) in the 2026 Massachusetts senatorial primaries, set for Sept. 1. He currently serves as a Representative for Massachusetts’ Sixth Congressional District.
