To the editor:
My name is Mike Gambale, and I’ve worked as a commercial fisherman in Swampscott for nearly 50 years, as a Swampscott Reserve Police Officer for 35 years, and as a long-time youth sports coach in town. I’ve spent my career on the waters around Swampscott, and more recently, I’ve had the opportunity to serve alongside Ted Dooley on the Harbor and Waterfront Advisory Committee.
Ted and I haven’t always agreed. In fact, we’ve had different perspectives on important issues, like the proposal for a new pier. But what’s stood out to me is how Ted approaches those differences. He doesn’t dismiss them, he asks questions. He listens. He takes the time to understand the needs of our fishing fleet and the realities of our commercial life on the water.
That kind of approach matters. It’s respectful, it’s thoughtful, and it leads to better decisions. Even when we’ve disagreed, we’ve found ways to work together and learn from each other. In my experience, that’s what good local leadership looks like.
Ted brings a steady, inquisitive mindset and a real willingness to engage with people across the community. He cares about getting things done right, while at the same time, he has the drive to move things forward.
I’m proud to support Ted Dooley for the Select Board for one of the two seats open on April 28. I believe he’ll bring the kind of balanced, hardworking leadership that Swampscott needs.
Sincerely,
Mike Gambale
