Call it a smash hit.
The fifth annual Doug Mullins Memorial Baseball Tournament kicked off at Fraser Field Friday. Lynn Classical and St. Mary’s secured first-round wins and battle for Saturday’s championship marbles at 3 p.m.
Swampscott’s 6-1 lead put the Rams in a hole, but they dug out of it in style, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to knot things 6-6. Classical’s Jayden Barragan (2-for-4, 2 RBI) roped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to sink the Big Blue.
It was the second consecutive game Barragan drove in the winning run.
“Jayden was incredible today,” said Classical coach Jason Rogato. “He threw out a big runner at second base and then came up with two key hits in the game.”
Braeden Ohanessian (6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) and Mark Walsh (WP, 1-2-3 seventh inning) combined for pitching duties. Ohanessian helped his own cause with three hits and two runs scored, while Emerson Lara compiled a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.
“Braeden had to work out of some tough situations today and he battled,” Rogato said. “He never gave up and gave us six strong innings against a very good hitting team.”
Jamison Ford pitched six innings for Swampscott, allowing five earned runs, six hits, and two walks to go with three strikeouts. Connor Chiarello (3 H, R) was a home run short of a cycle, joined offensively by Ford (2 H, 3 RBI) and Isaiah Baires (RBI).
St. Mary’s, seeking its fifth consecutive Mullins title, handled Lynn English 4-0 under the ballpark lights. Rolky Brea-Arias (7 IP, 5 H, 8 K) caught eyes on the bump, also adding a triple and a run scored for the Spartans.
Swampscott and Lynn English play in Saturday’s consolation game at noon.

Lynnfield began the Brendan Grant Tournament with a bang and will face Reading Memorial in Saturday’s championship game at 1 p.m. Harris Hadzihasanovic (6 IP, 8 K) got the start, while Paul Tappan closed for the Pioneers.
Doing offensive damage were Matt Tracy (3 H, 2 RBI), Jared Burke (2 H, 2 RBI), Oliver Morgan (2 H, RBI), Dylan Nguyen (2 H, RBI), and Michael Hubbard (2 H, RBI).
“It was pretty spread out and the kids played well,” said Lynnfield coach John O’Brien. “He (Hadzihasanovic) pitched a nice ballgame.”
