MARBLEHEAD — In their 11th season, the Marblehead Seasiders, a men’s amateur baseball team competing in the North Shore Baseball League, stand at 5-7-1 as calendars have turned to July.
Founder Joe McKane said it’s “a much better team” with, perhaps, its best roster yet. The Seasiders sit in seventh place (10 teams).
“In the offseason, our captains — Trey Blackmer, Mike Mitchell, and Brennan Frost — went out and found guys who have improved our team,” McKane said.
One of those players is Gabe Fales, a sophomore pitcher and shortstop at Gordon College. He’s batting .296 this summer and through six innings pitched, Fales has struck out 16 batters and walked just six.
Last Sunday (3-1 win against the North Shore Storm), Frost tossed a complete-game, four-hit gem. The team’s lone homer of the summer belongs to Enrique Quinonez.
The Seasiders, who play all of their home games at Seaside Park, host the Beverly Recs this Sunday at 2 p.m.
